Bethany Anderson
Anderson, York Earn Wins as Both Squads Lead After First Day
    Youngstown -- Bethany Anderson set the meet record in the hammer, and Shayne York won the long jump to highlight day one for Youngstown State at the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships on campus.
    Anderson won the hammer for the third straight year with a mark of 182-5, which surpassed Andrea Karpala's 2003 distance for the top ever thrown at the championship meet. Release | Day One Results
Softball Eliminated After 3-1 Loss to Butler
     Chicago, Ill. -- The Youngstown State softball team was eliminated from the Horizon League Softball Championship after dropping a 3-1 decision to Butler on Friday morning at the Loyola Softball Field.
    
The Penguins finished  the season with a 12-37 overall record while Butler improves to 17-28. Release | Stats
Track Goes for Sweep as League Meet Comes to Campus

    Youngstown -- The Youngstown State women's track and field team will try to win its second conference title of the year at the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the YSU campus this week.
    The Penguins won the league's indoor crown at the beginning of March, and they'll look to sweep the season for the first time since 2005. Release | Gorby Interview | Katie Betts | Scott Streiner

Bedra Named to ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Third-Team
      Youngstown -- Just one day after being named First-Team All-Horizon League for the second straight year, YSU senior McKenzie Bedra was named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Third-Team, the College Sports Information Directors announced on Thursday. Bedra carries a 3.36 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science. Release
Cold Bats, Miscues Doom Penguins in 7-0 Loss to UIC
   Chicago, Ill. -- The YSU softball team was limited to just two hits and made two late-inning errors en route to a 7-0 loss to UIC in the first round of the Horizon League Softball Championship on Thursday morning at the Loyola Softball Field. UIC's Sarah Clynes fired the two-hit shutout with four strikeouts. Clynes took a no-hitter into the top of the sixth inning before Kristin Bair's one-out single up the middle broke up the no-hit bid.
