Baseball: Bendle Leads YSU Past Dukes, 8-4
Niles, Ohio -- YSU junior
right-hander Rusty Bendle pitched
7.2 innings to help lead the
Penguins to an 8-4 win over Duquesne
on Tuesday night at Cafaro Field.
Bendle struck out seven and
scattered eight hits in making the
longest outing of his career.
Youngstown State (15-21-1) scored seven runs in the first two
innings and led 8-0 before the Dukes
(14-22) scored four runs in the top
of the eighth before Mike Abdalla
relieved Bendle and ended the
threat. Todd Santore had three hits
and drove in three runs and Adam Cox
homered, doubled and had three RBI.
In the first inning, Kendall Schlabach walked and Kellen
Dixon singled. Joe Marzano advanced
the runners with a sacrfice bunt.
Santore singled to score Schlabach
and Dixon and give YSU a 2-0 lead.
In the second inning, Clint Ford singled and catcher Adam Cox
followed with a homer down the
left-field line. After Schlabach hit
into a double play, Dixon walked and
scored on a long single by Joe
Marzano. Santore singled to bring in
Marzano and advanced to second on
the throw. Jim Lipinski followed
with a single that was misplayed in
right field to score Santore. Chris
Lewis (1-3) was chased after
allowing seven runs on seven hits in
two innings.
The Penguins return to action on Wednesday when they play at
Toledo. |
