Baseball: Penguins
Look to Snap Skid at Ohio State
The Youngstown State
baseball team will look to snap a
four-game losing skid tonight when
the Penguins play at No. 25
(Baseball Weekly) and No. 26
(Collegiate Baseball) Ohio State.
First pitch at Bill Davis Stadium is
scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Penguins
are coming off a tough weekend
dropping three games to Oral
Roberts.
YSU (13-17-1) plays a key conference series this
weekend when it travels to play
fifth-place IUPUI. The Jaguars are a
half-game behind the Penguins in the
league standings. The top four teams
qualify for the Mid-Con Tournament
set for May 17-19 in Tulsa, Okla.
This evening’s task will be difficult facing the
Buckeyes (27-8). OSU has won seven
of its last nine games and since
opening the season 3-4 is 24-4. Ohio
State is the second straight ranked
team the Penguins will face -- Oral
Roberts was ranked 29th in
Collegiate Baseball.
All-time against the Buckeyes, YSU owns a 2-9 mark in
the series. The Penguins two wins
came in 1990 (15-12) and 1996
(11-9). All of the games have been
played in Columbus and the Buckeyes
have won four straight in the
series, including a 6-3 win last
season. |
