Cox Leads Offensive Onslaught in 8-2 Win Over Toledo
    Niles, Ohio -- Sophomore catcher Adam Cox was one of four Penguins to have three hits as YSU pounded 15 hits off four Toledo pitchers in an 8-2 win over the Rockets at Cafaro Field on Wednesday night.
    Cox, had a single, double and home run while scoring twice and knocking in a season-high four runs. Kendall Schlabach, Jim Lipinski and Tim Stacey also had three hits each for the Penguins (18-24). YSU's pitching staff was also tough as Corey Ohalek (5-6), Frank Santore and Paul Yates struck out 12 and walked none.
    After Toledo (17-31) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, YSU scored twice in the second when Cox hit a two-out double that scored Kyle Smith and Lipinski singled home Cox.
    Toledo tied the game in the fifth with a run, but YSU answered with two in the fifth. Smith was hit by a pitch and Schlabach singled to open the inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Penrod advanced the runners Cox had a two-RBI single.
    Cox, who reached base all five times he stepped to the plate -- three hits and two walks -- hit his fourth homer of the season in the seventh to tie for the team lead at four.
    YSU added three insurance runs in the eighth inning. Smith had an RBI single, Schlabach had an RBI triple and Penrod had an RBI single to plate three runs.
    Ohalek earned the victory pitching five innings allowing two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and he struck out five. Frank Santore made his first appearance since suffering a fractured jaw against Detroit on April 17. Santore retired the first five batters he faced and pitched three innings allowing two hits and striking out four. Yates struck out the side in the ninth to end the game.
    Nick Szczur (3-5) suffered the loss in relief of starter Raul Lopez who pitched four innings. Taylor Eckel had two hits to lead a six-hit Rocket attack.
    Youngstown State concludes the season on Thursday night at 7 at Cafaro Field when the Penguins play host to Pittsburgh. The Panthers beat YSU 4-1 on Tuesday at Pitt.
