Penguins Hold Off Raiders For 11-7 Victory
Dayton, Ohio --
A five-run run ninth inning rally falls short
after Youngstown State's Clint Ford
sent back-to-back Raiders down on
strikeouts to end the game. The
Pengiuns (13-21, 7-6 in the Horizon
League) relied on a six-run seventh
inning to defeat Wright State
(15-26, 7-9) by a score of 11-7.
The biggest hit of the night came off the bat of Pengiun Adam
Cox, who hit a towering grand slam
home run off of Raider reliever J.P.
Jung in the top of the seventh
inning. Cox's grand slam would later
determine the outcome of the game.
Jim Phillips went 3-for-5, scoring a pair of runs, while
Kendal Schlabach went 3-for-6 with
two RBIs for Youngstown State.
Senior Tom Bohr led the way for the Raiders batting 3-3 on
the night. Bryan Vickers went 1-4
with two RBI's, hitting a clutch
two-run double in the ninth inning.
Jonathon Smart improved to 3-1 on the season, pitching seven
innings, giving up two runs on four
hits, while striking out four
batters for Youngstown State.
Casey Abrams fell to 3-2 on the season for the Raiders.
Abrams went 6 1/3 innings, giving up
seven runs on 15 hits, while
striking out six batters. Luck was
not on Abrams' side tonight, as nine
of the Pengiuns hits were infield
singles.
Wright State will host Youngstown State in a doubleheader
tomorrow, May 4, with the first game
scheduled for a noon start. Both
games will held at Nischwitz
Stadium. |
