Panthers Score Five in Third, Top Penguins 8-3
    Milwaukee, Wis. --
The UW-Milwaukee Panthers scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to spark an 8-3 victory over the Youngstown State baseball team on Friday evening at Henry Aaron Field.
Mikel Schaefer picked up his sixth win of the season for the Panthers (22-20, 10-7 Horizon), throwing a complete game while scattering seven hits and striking out six.  Adam Cox had two hits including his tenth home run of the season on a two-run blast in the top of the seventh to lead the Penguins (23-24, 11-10).
UW-Milwaukee got on the board first in the bottom of the third by tallying five runs on six hits and three YSU errors.  The Panthers added another run in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead.
The Penguins got on the board in the seventh when Justin Banks scored on a sacrifice fly from J.D. Hannan.  Banks led off the inning with an infield single, then stole second and advanced to third when the catcher's attempt sailed into centerfield.
The Panthers scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on one hit and two more Penguin miscues to take an 8-1 lead.
Kendall Schlabach singled to lead off the eighth and scored on Cox's blast, which cut the Panther lead to five.
Eric Shaffer threw six innings for the Penguins in a losing effort.  Mike Hosterman pitched a scoreless seventh and recorded two strikeouts while Paul Yates struck out the side in a scoreless eighth.
UW-Milwaukee's Steve Sanfilippo finished with two hits and two runs scored to pace the Panthers while Matt Alexander hit a two-run single in the third.
Cox's homer was the 18th of his career and puts him third in school history.  He is also tied for second in season home runs with teammate Jim Lipinski and is one bomb short of tying the school record.
The Panthers and Penguins will continue their four-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in a doubleheader at Henry Aaron Field.
