Penguins Drop Decision to Ohio, 11-3
Niles, Ohio -- The Ohio Bobcats
jumped out to a 7-0 lead and
silenced a late Youngstown State
rally with four runs in the seventh
inning en route to an 11-3 victory
on a cold Tuesday night at Eastwood
Field.
With the victory in the non-conference game, Ohio improves to
14-23 overall while YSU falls to
13-22.
Jim Lipinski and Brandon Caipen led the Penguins offensively
with two hits apiece while Kyle
Penrod had two RBIs.
Brian Boone was tagged with the loss as he allowed seven runs
on seven hits in five innings.
Willie Walker and Brian White had two hits apiece for the
Bobcats while Brian Colopy had three
RBIs. Marc Cornell picked up
his second win of the seasonj in
five scoreless innings.
The Bobcats jumped out early on Boone with five runs on three
hits in the second inning.
After two walks and a single loaded
the bases with no outs, Boone hit
Bryant Witt to bring home Ben
Crabtree and Matt Geiger followed
with a sacrifice fly to right.
Bryan Buck then ripped an RBI double
two batters later and Brian Colopy
hit a two-run single.
Ohio tallied a run in the fourth and fifth innings to take a
7-0 lead, but the Penguins put three
runs on the board in the sixth to
get within four.
With two outs and runners on first and second, Penrod ripped
a two-run double to right center to
score Adam Cox and Justin Banks.
Jim Phillips then followed with a
double of his own down the right
field line to plate Cox.
Ohio, however, answered immediately with four runs in the top
of the seventh for the final tally.
The Penguins will play host to Wright State in a four-game
Horizon League series beginning
Friday at 7 p.m. |
