Penguins to Play Texas Longhorns in NCAA Regional
Youngstown -- The Youngstown State
baseball team will travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the No. 1-seeded Texas
Longhorns on Friday at 8 p.m. (EST) in the first round of the NCAA Regionals,
the NCAA announced.
YSU will be making its first-ever trip to the tournament in
its 50-year history while the Longhorns enter as the top-seeded team in the
country and will be making their 46th appearance in the tournament.
"I knew we were going to play one of the better teams, but
right now, our team has come together and is playing well," head coach Mike
Florak said. "It still comes down to making pitches, putting the bat on
the ball, catching the ball and running the bases."
If the Penguins win Friday's game, they will play the winner
of the Oral Roberts and TCU game on Saturday at 4 p.m. If the Longhorns win, YSU
will play in an elimination game Saturday at Noon.
YSU earned the Horizon League's automatic bid to the
tournament after going a perfect 4-0 in the conference tournament last week.
