YSU Falls to No. 1 Texas, 10-3
    Austin, Texas -- The No. 1 Texas Longhorns scored eight unanswered runs and got seven strong innings from Justin Simmons as they defeated Youngstown State 10-3 in the opening round of the Austin Regional Friday night at Disch-Falk Field.
    YSU had a 1-0 lead through an inning and a half, but the Longhorns answered with two runs in the second, two in the fourth and four in the sixth to take a 8-1 advantage.
    YSU will now play an elimination game against TCU Saturday at Noon (EST) while the Longhorns will take on Oral Roberts at 4 p.m.
    The Penguins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as they banged out three straight singles with two outs.  Adam Cox hit a blooper to right center to ignite the offense and Brian Boone followed with a single up the middle to put runners on first and second.  Clint Ford then stepped up and ripped a single up the middle to plate Cox and give the Penguins the lead.
    Texas answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 2-1 advantage.  Ryan Russ hit a leadoff single and came around to score when J.D. Reininger hit a two-strike double to right center.  Justin Thomas retired Robby Hudson and David Maroul, but Drew Stubbs came through with an infield two-out single to plate Reininger and give the Longhorns the lead.
    The Longhorns tacked on two runs in the fourth as Maroul and and Drew Stubbs hit back-to-back run scoring hits before blowing the game open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 8-1 lead.
    YSU scratched two runs in the eighth as Charles Schultz singled home Jim Phillips and Kendall Schlabach scored on a Justin Banks groundout, but Taylor Teagarden hit his second two-run homer in the bottom half of the frame to put the Longhorns back up seven for the final tally.
    Thomas went the first six innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits in a losing effort to fall to 7-3 on the season.  Simmons improved to 10-3 on the campaign as he allowed three runs on eight hits in the first seven innings.
    Brandon Caipen, Schultz, Boone and Phillips had two hits apiece to lead the 11-hit Penguin attack.
