Penguins Fall to Valparaiso, 3-1
Valparaiso, Ind. -- Valparaiso
pitchers scattered four hits and did
not allow a run over the final eight
innings in a 3-1 victory over
Youngstown State Wednesday afternoon
at Emory G. Bauer Field.
The Crusaders improve to 17-33 overall with the win while the
Penguins drop to 18-30.
YSU will travel to UW-Milwaukee to take on the Panthers in a
four-game series beginning Friday at
8 p.m. in the final series of the
season for both teams .
The Penguins scored their only run of the contest in the
first inning when Brandon Caipen hit
a one-out double and scored on a
Charles Schultz single.
The Crusaders tied the score in the bottom of the second when
Kevin Kutansky hit a leadoff triple
and Colin Reynolds followed with an
RBI single. Valparasio then
scored an unearned run in the third
to take a 2-1 lead and added an
insurance run in the fifth.
Schultz and Justin Banks finished with two hits apiece to
lead the Penguins' seven-hit attack.
YSU stranded eight runners in the
contest.
Frank Santore allowed all three runs in five innings of work
while Eric Shaffer and Andy Svitak
combined for three shutout innings.
Matt Gillikin picked up the win as
he allowed one run on four hits in
four innings of work. |
