YSU was retired in order in the bottom of the ninth.
The Golden Flashes got a run on three hits in the first inning when Drew Saylor singled home Joe Tucker, but the Penguins scored the game's next four runs to pull ahead 4-1. Erich Diedrich hit a solo homer in the second to tie the score, and he and Charles Schultz hit RBI singles in the fourth to put YSU up 3-1. Justin Banks singled home Brent Parks in the fifth to give YSU a three-run advantage.
KSU cut the margin to one in the sixth when Andrew Davis and Eichorn run-scoring hits, and Greg Rohan scored on a double-play groundout in the seventh to knot the score at 4-4.
Andrew Davis went three scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season for the Golden Flashes while Josh Wells was charged with the loss for YSU. Eric Shaffer allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings and left with the lead but did not factor in the decision.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning of game two before Kent State pulled ahead 3-1 with a run in the second and another in the fourth. The Penguins tied the score in the bottom of the fourth when Mike Turjanica singled home Schultz and later scored on a balk.
