Engle, 17 Hits
Lead Penguins to 8-4 Victory Over
Butler
Indianapolis -- Youngstown State
banged out 17 hits and Lucas Engle
struck out 10 hitters in an 8-4
complete game victory over Butler on
Saturday.
Sean Lucas, Erich Diedrich and Josh Page had three hits
apiece for the Penguins, who
improved to 5-11 overall and 1-0 in
the Horizon League.
Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended at the
end of the second inning with the
Penguins ahead 2-0. That game will
be finished Sunday before the finale
beginning at noon.
Engle allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks
to earn his third straight decision.
His 10 strikeouts were a career high
and the most by any Penguin pitcher
this season. He also threw the first
complete game of the season for YSU.
Page singled in Diedrich in the second and Diedrich drove
Koehnlein home in the third to give
the Penguins a 2-0 lead.
Butler scored three runs on three straight hits in the third
to go up 3-2, but YSU answered with
four runs on four hits in the fourth
to take the lead for good at 6-3.
YSU got two insurance runs in the eighth to go up 8-3, and
Butler got a run in the ninth for
the final tally.
Lucas drove in two runs and scored twice while Diedrich had
two RBIs. Dustin Wachter also
doubled and scored for the Penguins.
Brian Bokowy allowed all eight runs on 16 hits in 7.1 innings
for Butler to drop to 3-2. |
