Penguins Drop Two in Sunday Doubleheader at Missouri
Columbia, Mo. -- Youngstown State pitchers walked
11 hitters in game one and eight in game two in a doubleheader setback to
Missouri on Sunday afternoon at Taylor Stadium.
The Tigers had just nine hits in each of the games but won
both 11-0 thanks to the free passes. Missouri improved to 9-5 on the year while
YSU fell to 0-6.
YSU sophomore infielder John Koehnlein singled in both games
to extend his hitting streak to 12 games dating back to last season. His
fourth-inning single in game two was YSU's only base hit.
Adam Kalafos (0-2) was charged with the loss in game one,
allowing four runs on three hits and six walks in five innings. Lucas Engle
(0-2) allowed 10 runs in three innings in game two in a losing effort.
The Penguins stranded seven runners in game one and trailed
6-0 before surrendering five runs in the bottom of the eighth. Three of YSU's
seven hits came in the second, but the Penguins were unable to push a run
across.
Sophomore Aaron Crow (2-0) surrendered six hits and struck
out six in seven innings in game one for Missouri.
Starter Kyle Gibson and three relievers combined for the
one-hit shutout in game two.
The Penguins will play at Southern Illinois on Saturday and
Sunday next week. |
