Three Guins Lead Summer Teams to League Titles
Youngstown
-- Youngstown State baseball
players Erich Diedrich, Lucas Engle
and Ryan Sellman all played key
roles in leading their summer league
teams to a final top 16 national ranking by pgcrosschecker.com.
Diedrich played for the Great Lakes League Champion Columbus
All-Americans, which finished the
season ranked 14th, and Engle and Sellman
pitched for the 11th-ranked Coppell
Copperheads of the Texas Collegiate
League.
Diedrich, who played first base for the All-Americans, was
also mentioned as one of two players
who powered the team to the crown.
Diedrich batted .350 with four home
runs, 27 RBIs and 26 runs scored en
route to earning first-team
all-league honors.
Engle earned the win in Coppel's first playoff game against
Brazos Valley, surrendering two runs
on two hits while striking out eight
in seven innings. He also allowed
only one run in game two of the
championship series but did not
factor in the decision. He finished
the year with a perfect 3-0 record
and a 2.23 ERA in five starts and
four relief appearances. Sellman
threw in 14 games out of the bullpen
and finished 1-0 with a save and a
3.68 ERA. He also had an RBI single
in two at bats.
