Jim Vecchiarella | YSU Athletics Hall of Fame
- Inducted 1990
Jim Vecchiarella starred scholastically at nearby Rayen High School, and like a long line of local athletes, chose to remain at home to play for head coach Dwight “Dike” Beede. A center who Beede called one of the best to ever play for the Penguins, he’s one of the few ex players that became a coach at his alma mater, serving under both Beede and Rey Dempsey before heading to Tulane University. He’s left his mark not only as a player, but as a coach as well not only on the collegiate level but also professionally. He coached with Charlotte of the old world football league, the Los Angeles Rams, the Kansas City Chiefs, the New York Jets and his current position as defensive coordinator/linebackers coach with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League. He is without a doubt one of the most recognizable assistant coaches in the NFL and has been mentioned for several head coaching vacancies that have become available. Jim is married to the former Lucille Glaros, the couple have two sons, Jim and Bills, and one daughter, Lisa.
