Thiessen Named First-Team Academic All-American
Youngstown -- Youngstown
State senior free safety Scott
Thiessen (Modesto, Calif.) has been
named a first-team CoSIDA Academic
All-American, the organization
announced on Monday.
Thiessen becomes the fourth YSU player in school history to
be named First-Team Academic
All-American joining Anthony
Pannunzio (1998), John Quintana
(1993) and Sam Barbera (1978).
Division I-AA was well represented
on the first-team placing 12 members
on the 24-person first team, half
the squad.
Thiessen, who was also a first-team Academic All-Gateway
honoree, owns a 3.59 GPA in Special
Education. This past fall he was
second on the Penguins with 86 total
tackles while recording three
interceptions. He finished the
season on a strong note recording 43
tackles in his final four games of
the season.
His selection marks
the sixth consecutive year that a
student-athlete from the Gateway
Football Conference has been named
to the first-team.
Ohio State senior quarterback Craig Krenzel was named the
2003 CoSIDA Academic All-American of
the Year. |
