Football: Department, Coach Jon Heacock
Agree In Principle on Contract
Extension
Youngstown -- Youngstown State University Athletic
Director Ron Strollo and Head
Football Coach Jon Heacock have
agreed in principle to a contract
extension, the YSU Athletic
Department announced on Wednesday.
Heacock, whose contract was to expire at the conclusion of
this season, helped guide the
Penguins to an 8-3 overall record
this year while tying for their
first-ever Gateway Football
Conference title with a 5-2 mark. In
his five years as YSU's head coach,
he owns an overall mark of 32-24 for
a .571 winning percentage. He has
posted winning seasons in three of
his five campaigns on the YSU
sidelines.
Strollo said he is pleased to have reached an agreement with
Heacock.
"I have been associated with Jon since 1991 and he is a class
individual who represents our
program and community well," Strollo
said. "We all look forward to Jon
leading our program and I know our
student-athletes will be excited
that he will remain their coach."
Details of the contract have yet to be finalized and will be
announced at a later date.
Heacock and his coaching staff are concentrating on a
possible at-large berth in the
Division I-AA playoffs. The playoff
announcement will come on Sunday at
1 p.m. on ESPN News.
Heacock took over as head football coach on Jan. 25, 2001. He
is only the fifth head coach in the
program's storied 65-year history. |
