Football: Terry, Mason, Bishop Earn HBK Player-of-the-Game Accolades
Youngstown -- Sophomore linebacker James
Terry, junior tailback Marcus Mason
and junior punter Joe Bishop were
named the Hill Barth & King Players
for the Indiana State game, the
coaching staff announced on Tuesday.
Terry was named the Hill Barth & King Defensive Player of the
Game after a solid performance on
both defense and special teams. He
played a total of 49 snaps against
the Sycamores and recorded a 90
percent grade. By the coaching staff
he was credited with five tackles,
including four solo stops, two
sacks, another tackle for loss, a
quarterback pressure and a pass
breakup.
Mason was named the Hill Barth & King Offensive Player of the
Game following his second
consecutive 100-plus yard rushing
performance. Mason rushed for a
career-high 152 yards on 18 carries.
He scored on three-yard touchdown
runs in the first and second quarter
to help the Penguins cruise to the
victory. He had 126 yards on 27
rushes the week before against
Illinois State.
Bishop was tabbed the Hill Barth & King Special Teams Player
of the Game for his work on two
punts and seven kickoffs. He
averaged 43.5 yards on his punts,
including a 52-yard boot. His two
punts pinned the Sycamores inside
their 20-yard line on both occasions
at the 19 and 17-yard lines
respectively. Two of his kickoffs
were not returned past the six-yard
line while two others were for
touchbacks.
Offensive tackle John Bartos earned his second Jim Zdelar
Offensive Lineman of the Game award
this season. The first was at
Liberty on Sept. 17. Overall four
members of the offensive line had
winning performances as the Penguins
erupted for 379 yards rushing and
567 yards of total offense. The 567
yards of total offense was the
fifth-best single-game output in
school history while the 379 yards
rushing ranked as the eighth most.
Junior linebacker Jeff Koval was named the Jermaine Hopkins
Defensive Lineman of the Game. Koval
played on 46 snaps and made his
first start of the season against
the Sycamores. He registered three
solo stops, two assisted tackles, a
sack, a pass breakup and a
quarterback pressure according to
the coaching staff.
Earning scout team player-of-the-week accolades were
sophomore wide receiver Tariq Goode
(offense), redshirt freshman
cornerback Tony Kavouras (defense)
and junior cornerback Chris Goffer
(special teams).
Terry also picked up the W.O.W./Derek Pixley Hit of the Game.
It marks the second straight week
and that the sophomore had the pop
of the game.
Senior offensive guard Tony Limongi was named the Haines
Family Player of the Game by the YSU
broadcast crew.
The 15th (ESPN/USA Today Coaches) and 17th-ranked (The Sports
Network) Penguins return to action
on Saturday when they play host to
Western Illinois. Kickoff is set for
4 p.m. at Stambaugh Stadium. |
