Football: Bush, Wicks
and Blose Named HBK
Players of the Game vs. Missouri
State
Youngstown – Senior
tight end Derrick Bush, junior
cornerback Lenny Wicks and sophomore
placekicker Stephen Blose were named
the Hill Barth &
King Players of the Game for their
performances against Missouri State, the
coaching staff announced on Tuesday.
Bush was named the HBK Offensive
Player of the Game for the first
time this season.
Wicks was selected as the HBK
Defensive Player of the Game. Wicks
played 65 total plays during
Saturday's contest against the Bears
and earned an 89 percent grade for
his performance. He was credited
with eight total tackles, including
four solo stops.
Blose, a kickoff specialist, was
tabbed the HBK Special Teams Player
of the Game. Two of his kickoffs
reached the end zone, including one
touchback. He executed two sky kicks
and in the fourth quarter YSU
recovered one of his on-side kicks
trailing 42-28.
Sophomore guard Eric Rodemoyer was
named the Jim Zdelar Offensive
Lineman of the Game. Rodemoyer's
hustle downfield recovered a YSU
fumble at the MSU one-yard line to
set up the Penguins' first score.
Junior defensive tackle Crispin
Fernandez was named the Jermaine
Hopkins Defensive Lineman of the
Game for the fourth time this
season. Saturday, Fernandez appeared
in 53 plays and finished with a
grade of 91 percent. He was credited
with six total tackles, including
two solo stops.
Earning scout team honors for there performances during the
week were freshman quarterback Marc
Kantesky (offense), freshman safety
Vincent Patella (defense) and
freshman defensive end Noah Taylor
(special teams).
Redshirt freshman Kamryn Keys and
junior wide receiver Donald Jones
were both named the recipients of
the W.O.W./Derek Pixley Hit of the
Week for a block on special teams.
True freshman quarterback Dailyn
Campbell was named the Haines Family
Player of the Game by the YSU
broadcast crew of Bob Hannon, Dick
Hartzell, Dave Sess and Mike Orto.
Campbell threw for one touchdown and
ran for another score in the game.
Senior linebacker/long snapper Mike
Barlak received the Wachovia
Leadership Award. Barlak played 50
snaps against the Bears and posted
the highest grade of the linebackers
at 82 percent.
The Penguins (2-5 overall and 1-2 in
the MVFC) return home to play host
to No. 14 Southern Illinois (3-2 and 2-1).
Kickoff at Stambaugh Stadium is set
for 4 p.m.
