Brandon Summers Earns MVFC Offensive Player-of-the-Week Honors

St. Louis, Mo. -- Youngstown State senior quarterback Brandon Summers was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday, the league office announced. South Dakota State kick returner Tyrel Kool was named the Special Teams Performer of the Week while UNI's Quentin Scott was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.

On Saturday against Illinois State, Summers completed 25-of-39 passes for a season-high 346 yards and two touchdowns. He was sharp throughout and completed five passes of 27 yards or more during the game -- 55 yards for a touchdown do Dominique Barnes, 54 yards to Aaron Pitts, 39 yards to Donald Jones, 30 yards to Jones and 27 to Dana Brown.

It was the third 300-plus passing yard performance by Summers in his two-year YSU career. For the year, he has completed 196-of-307 attempts for 2,070 yards and 14 touchdowns. He did not throw an interception on Saturday for the first time in seven games as YSU did not turn the ball over en route to a season-best 472 yards of total offense.

The Penguins finish out the 2009 season this Saturday when they travel to North Dakota State. Kickoff at the Fargodome is set for 2 p.m. Eastern time and can be heard on 570 WKBN.
