Played in three games as a reserve fullback...saw action against Southern Utah, Indiana State and Western Illinois...played 15 snaps in the backfield...saw 16 snaps as a member of special teams units...posted a 4.0 grade-point average in the fall semester...Gateway Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award Recipient...Named to Gateway Honor Roll.

 

2006: Redshirted...dressed for all 14 games as a reserve long snapper...scout special teams player of the week against Illinois State (regular season)...Named to Gateway Honor Roll.

 

HIGH SCHOOL: As a senior, was a first-team Division II All-Ohio linebacker...helped lead the Cardinals to a 14-1 record and an appearance in the Division II state championship game...Canfield lost 31-29 to Toledo Central Catholic in first-ever state title game...played linebacker and fullback...led the team with 120 total tackles...had four interceptions, three pass breakups and two sacks...was also All-Metro Athletic Conference and All-Northeast Ohio while being named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year...chosen as team defensive MVP...selected to play for Ohio in the Big 33 Game...selected as a WYTV Student-Athlete of the Week in December...intercepted three passes in playoff win over Louisville...also rushed for 624 yards on 94 carries...had 52 yards on 11 rushes in state title game...was a team captain...in 2004, was a second-team All-Ohio linebacker...finished the year with a team-high 93 tackles...was again selected all-conference and All-Northeast Ohio...named a team captain...Cardinals were 7-4 his junior year and advanced to the state playoffs...coach was Mike Pavlansky...was a second-team all-conference first baseman as a junior...won the 2004 K.O. Drugs Boxing Heavyweight Championship...member of the honor roll and the National Honor Society.

Parents are Tom and Debra Banna...his father, Tom was a fullback for the Penguins from 1972-74...uncles Rick and Nazih also played for the Guins...has two brothers (Tom, Dan)...born Dec. 1, 1987...Coach Bob Dove Scholarship Recipient...major is Exercise Science.
