Fourth Season
Brian Jones, a former
three-year starting quarterback at nearby Liberty High School, is in his fourth year as a member of the Youngstown State
coaching staff as an undergraduate student assistant.
He joined the Penguin coaching staff in 2007 working with the
offensive staff on gamedays, during the offseason and throughout the week. In
2008 and 2009, Jones assumed the role of signaling all offensive plays on
gamedays and at all practices as YSU moved to the spread offense.
Jones has worked various camps the past three years. Besides
helping at YSU, he has worked camps at the University of Washington and
Lafayette College. He has participated in area clinics -- Frank Glazer Clinic,
OHSFCA Clinic and Quad County Football Coaches Association Annual Clinic -- all
in Ohio.
He has also been a key contributor to the programs community
outreach programming.
In high school, Jones quarterbacked the Leopards to an 11-2 mark as a senior
in 2005 before assisting the coaching staff in 2006 following his graduation.
During his high school career he passed for more than 2,600
yards and had 28 touchdown tosses. He was a two-time All-Northeast Ohio,
all-county and all-conference selection. Jones also played baseball and
basketball.
Following his playing career, he served one season as
quarterbacks coach for the Leopards in 2007.
He is majoring in Physical Education at YSU.
