Penguin Ross Beal Qualifies for U.S.
Amateur

Ross Beal
(Uniontown, Ohio) has qualified for
the United States Men's Amateur
Championship for the second time.
Beal carded an impressive 137 on Thursday to win a U.S.
Amateur Sectional Qualifier in
Cleveland.
He shot
a four-under par 67 at Legend Lake
Golf Course in Chardon and carded a
72 at Fowler's Mill Golf Course in
Chesterland. Overall, 108 players
competed in the sectional qualifier.
The 2008 Amateur Championships will
be held August 18-24 at the
Pinehurst Resort in the village of
Pinehurst, N.C. The competitors will
play both course No. 2 (Par 71) and
No. 4 (Par 70).
Pinehurst has an impressive recent
history of golf playing host to the
U.S. Open in 1999 and 2005. The 1991
and 1992 PGA Tour Championships were
also held at the course as well as
the U.S. Senior Open in 1994. The
last U.S. Amateur held at the course
was in 1980. The 1962 event was also

Monday and Tuesday are stroke play
while Match Play begins on Wednesday
after the field is cut to the top 64
players.
Beal qualified for the 2004 U.S.
Amateur Championship at the famed
Wing Foot Country Club in Mamaronek,
N.Y. He carded an 82 in the opening
