Men’s Golf: Ross
Beal Makes Cut of Top 64 at U.S.
Amateur

Pinehurst, N.C. –
Former YSU men’s
golfer Ross Beal (Uniontown, Ohio)
made the cut of 64 to advance into
the match play round at the U.S.
Amateur taking place at Pinehurst
Resort and Country Club.
In round one Beal shot a five-over
75 (37-38) and had three birdies,
nine pars, four bogeys, and two
double bogeys. The second round Beal
shot an even par 70 (35-35) to give
him a two round total of
five-over. Beal’s second round
consisted of four birdies, 10 pars,
and four bogeys.
After two rounds Beal was tied for
63rd with 25 other golfers. With
only 64 making the cut, Beal was
forced to compete in a playoff with
the others tied for the last two
spots. Beal did qualify for the 64th
and final spot to move onto match
play.
Beal will be squaring off with the
number one seed Robbie Fillmore of
BYU who shot a six-under 134
(69-65). Fillmore and Beal are set
to square off at 1:10 p.m. Eastern
Time and the event will be televised
on the Golf Channel.
This year 315 amateur golfers took
part in the event. Notable past
winners of the event include Jack
Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. |
