Men’s Golf: Penguins
Poised to Make a Run in the Horizon
League Championships
The YSU men’s golf team
will be looking to improve their
sixth place finish from last year
when they compete in the Horizon
League Championships on Monday and
Tuesday at Shaker Run Golf Club in
Lebanon, Ohio.
The Guins will be
looking to rebound of their most
recent ninth place finish at the
Kent State First Energy
Invitational. The Penguins finished
on a strong note at the event
climbing up three spots after a 12th
place finish in round one.
Representing the Penguins at the
event will be senior Ross Beal,
junior Ryan Stocke, sophomore Tim
Morrow and freshmen Spenser Sulzener
and Michael Turner.
Beal will be making his fourth and
final Horizon League Championship
appearance as a Penguin. In
2007, he placed in 27th with a three
round total of 240. Also in
2005, he finished in 29th shooting a
238. His personal best finish
was in 2004, when he placed in 21st
with a 234.
Stocke will compete in the Horizon
League Championships for the third
time in as many years. He is
coming off a team-best eighth place
finish with a three-round score of
228 last year. He also
finished in 12th
carding a 217 in 2006.
Morrow is going back to the Horizon
League Championships for his second
time. He will look to improve
on his 13th place finish in
2007 after firing a 230.
Sulzener, a freshman out of New Philadelphia
High School, will be making his
Horizon League Tournament debut
after a solid first season with
YSU. His best finish this season
was when he placed seventh at the
Norm Bullock Invitational.
Turner will be making his Horizon
Championships debut on Monday. He
has only competed in four events
this season and did not compete in
the fall attending Miami (Ohio).
The
Horizon League Championships will
start with two rounds on Monday, and
conclude with one round on Tuesday.
If the Penguins win the event, they
will then move on to the NCAA
Regionals. |
