Women’s Golf: Rogner
Rallies To Earn Medalist Honors; YSU
Places Second
Carmel, Ind. – Youngstown State
freshman women's golfer Katie Rogner
(Warren, Ohio) shot an ever-par 72
to overtake Butler's Lauren Showers
and earn medalist honors at the
Horizon League Championships which
concluded on Sunday at Plum Creek
Golf Club.
Rogner finished with a three-round score of 230 to finish two
strokes ahead of Showers' 232 total.
After rounds of 78 and 80 on
Saturday, Rogner was steady on
Sunday finishing with an even-par
72. She trailed Showers by two
strokes after the first and second
round.
In the team race, the Penguins came in second place, seven
shots behind the Bulldogs. Butler
shot a three-round team score of 954
(326-316-312) while Guins carded a
961 (324-324-313). Detroit (987)
finished third, Cleveland State was
fourth, Loyola fifth and Green Bay
sixth.
Junior Mollie Boney, who was competing in her first HL
Tournament, placed ninth with a
three-round 245. Boney carded rounds
of 83, 80 and 82 en route to her
ninth-place finish. Tying with Boney
for ninth was senior Adiranna
DiLonardo. DiLonardo had rounds of
79, 83 and 83 to also shot a 245.
Senior Felicia Ciotola finished 12th
with a 247. Ciotola had rounds of 84
and 85 on Saturday before posting a
78 on Sunday. Senior Brittany Jones
tied for 14th place with a 249.
Jones had rounds of 87, 81 and 81
during the event.
Rogner is the first YSU golfer to
win the Horizon League Championship
since Lori Hatcher won the 2003
event. Rogner was the only
Penguin to earn all-tournament
honors.
