Women’s Golf:
Formeck's Strong Second Round
Not Enough to Make Cut

Youngstown State women's golfer
Samantha Formeck finished with a
15-over par 159 (83-76) following
Tuesday's second-round stroke play
at the U.S. Women's Amateur Pub
LInks held at the Red Tail Golf
Club.
The 159 tied
Formeck for 105th, seven strokes off
the projected cut line. Those
participants who make the cut will
compete in match play with a
champion being crowned on Saturday.
Formeck's
first round of 83 consisted of one
birdie, eight pars, seven bogeys,
one double bogey and one triple
bogey. Formeck' improved in the
second round by carding two birdies,
11 pars, four bogeys and one double
bogey.
Formeck was
one of only 156 amateurs to qualify
for the event and earned her spot by
shooting a one-under-par 71 to place
first in a Publinks qualifier at
Totteridge Golf Club in Greensburg,
Pa. She won the event by four
strokes, making six birdies
throughout her round.
As a Penguin,
Formeck had a terrific freshman
campaign claiming medalist honors at
the 2009 Horizon League
Championships, was named the Horizon
League Golfer and Newcomer of the
Year
Last year
Katie Rogner qualified for the U.S.
Women's Amateur while the last
Penguin to play in the Women's
Publinks was Stephanie Matasek in
2001. Matasek finished 68th in the
event, missing the final cut by two
spots.
