Penguins Soccer Team Signs Three
Student-Athletes
Youngstown --
Youngstown State Head Soccer Coach
Liz Bartley announced on Friday
afternoon that three-student
athletes have signed a National
Letter of Intent to play soccer for
the Penguins.
Signing with Youngstown are goalkeeper Jennifer
Jennings (Warren, Ohio/Warren
Harding H.S.), defender/forward
Maura Patton (Medina,
Ohio/Medina H.S.), and midfielder
Jessica Yarter (Wellsburg,
W.Va./Brooke H.S.), Bartley said.
Jennings finished her senior season at Harding with an
88 percent save percentage and three
shutouts. She will be counted on to
join Mia Railing at goalkeeper next
season.
Patton scored 11 goals and had three assists her senior
season. She was named to the
Cleveland Plain Dealer and Medina
Gazette Honorable Mention teams, as
well as second-team All-Pioneer
Conference and Pioneer Conference
All-Academic team. She received Most
Improved Player for the 2001 season.
Patton will see most action at
defense or forward and will add
depth to the Penguins defense,
according to Bartley. "Maura will
add needed depth to our defense,"
Bartley said. "We will be able to
add her into our offense as well.
She is a very versatile player."
Yarter holds the single-season scoring record for
Brooke with 41 goals. She was voted
team co-captain and MVP her senior
year. For the 2001 season, she was
named OVAC Player of the Year,
first-team All-Valley, second-team
all state, and All-Region I Squad.
She was named her team’s Most
Valuable Offensive Player for the
1999, 2000, and 2001 seasons. In her
four-year varsity career at Brooke
she scored 103 goals. Yarter also
joins former "Soccer Vision Academy"
teammates Mia Railing, Hannah
Lawther, and Casey Dick. |
