Panthers Top Penguins, 6-1
Youngstown --
UW-Milwaukee's Melissa Ricter scored
two goals to help lead the Panthers
to a 6-1 victory over the Youngstown
State soccer team on Friday
afternoon at Stambaugh Stadium.
In the first half,
the Panthers took an early lead in
the third minute when Pam Shipway
scored on the right side of the box
from a throw in. In the 40th
minute Elizabeth Chudy gave UWM a
2-0 lead when she scored off a
corner kick from Nicole Motl.
In the second half, Ricter scored back to back goals in the
48th minute and in the 63rd minute
to increase the Panthers lead to
4-0. UWM continued the scoring tempo
when Amanda Winn fought off a pair
of Penguin defenders and sent a pass
to Elizabeth McNally, who connected
with the net from 10 yards out.
YSU cut the lead when freshman Sadie Brookman headed in her
first career goal at 66:57.
However, UWM answered back with
their final goal of the game.
Shipway found Taylor Powell in the
85th minute to conclude the Panther
scoring splurge.
YSU falls to 0-10-1, 0-3 in the Horizon League, while UWM
improves to 4-6 overall.
UWM outshot YSU 19-8 and outcornered the Penguins 5-0.
Katie Duracky took three shots for
the Penguins.
YSU will continue league action on Sunday, when they play
host to UW-Green Bay at noon at
Stambaugh Stadium. |
