Penguins Net 3-1 Win over Cleveland State
    Mentor, Ohio --
Youngstown State (1-14-1, 1-6 Horizon) sophomore Maddie Lawther netted one goal and added two assists to lift the Penguins over Cleveland State 3-1 on a cold Sunday afternoon at Mentor High School.
The Penguins got on the scoreboard first in the 16th minute when sophomore Katie Duracky connected on a cross from Lawther. The goal was Duracky's third of the season.  The Penguin defense held CSU for the remainder of the half to take a 1-0 lead heading into the locker room.
In the 53rd minute Cleveland State knotted the score at 1-1 when Amber Rasmussen scored on the right side of the box from 15 yards out, however less than 20 seconds later Lawther scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Katie Deprey to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead.  Freshman Tessa Brookman helped the Penguins pull away with the lead when she scored her first career goal off a cross from Lawther in the 73rd minute.
The win was the first for Head Coach Anthony James and the first for the Penguins since Oct. 30, 2003.
The Penguins edged the Vikings on shots 21-19, but CSU outcornered YSU 4-2.  Junior Caitlin Bestard recorded 13 saves for YSU.
YSU concludes their regular season on Friday, Oct. 22 when they host Villanova at 7 p.m. at Stambaugh Stadium.
