Youngstown State Comes Up Short Against IPFW

The Youngstown State soccer team came out evenly matched against IPFW keeping the game scoreless until the second half when penalty kick by the Mastodons made the final score 1-0 in Sunday afternoon's match at Stambaugh Stadium.
   The Penguins (0-8) opened the game playing strong defensively as defenders Brittny Humphrey and Nina Pannoni worked hard to keep the ball out of their territory. YSU goalie Jessica Yarter also stopped five of IPFW's shot's on goal.
    The second half looked promising for the Penguins as their offense came alive. A total of five shots on goal came in the second half by midfielders Alexandra Lee, Carrie Wack, Christi Williams and Sadie Brookman. The Penguins also out numbered IPFW in corner kicks 5-1.
    It was not until 65:38 into the game that a penalty kick by IPFW's Lindsay Williams put the only points of the afternoon on the board
    YSU continued their offensive efforts throughout the remainder of the game but could not find the goal making the final score 1-0.
    The Penguins will be back in action on Friday as they play St. Francis at home
