Youngstown State Comes Up Short Against IPFW
Youngstown --
The Youngstown State soccer team came
out evenly matched against IPFW
keeping the game scoreless until the
second half when penalty kick by the
Mastodons made the final score 1-0
in Sunday afternoon's match at
Stambaugh Stadium.
The Penguins (0-8) opened the game playing strong defensively as
defenders Brittny Humphrey and Nina
Pannoni worked hard to keep the ball
out of their territory. YSU goalie
Jessica Yarter also stopped five of
IPFW's shot's on goal.
The second half looked promising for the Penguins as their
offense came alive. A total of five
shots on goal came in the second
half by midfielders Alexandra Lee,
Carrie Wack, Christi Williams and
Sadie Brookman. The Penguins also
out numbered IPFW in corner kicks
5-1.
It was not until 65:38 into the game that a penalty kick by
IPFW's Lindsay Williams put the only
points of the afternoon on the board
YSU continued their offensive efforts throughout the
remainder of the game but could not
find the goal making the final score
1-0.
The Penguins will be back in action on Friday as they play
St. Francis at home |
