Penguins Fall to Robert Morris, 1-0
Youngstown-
The Youngstown State soccer team
outshot Robert Morris 14 to 11and
out numbered the Colonials seven to
six with shots on goal. However,
Robert Morris' goal at 25 minutes
into the play proved to be the game
winning shot in YSU's 1-0 loss.
Senior Tessa Brookman took the first
shot for YSU that was just high of
the net. Jordan Gapczynski and
Lauren Brennan each attempted a shot
before RMU's Jaimie Morra netted her
first goal of the season. Morra
fired her shot off a pass from
Kathleen Caggiano.
Junior Carrie Wack came near scoring
for the Penguins with a shot that
was saved by Jessica Onufer. Seconds
later Lauren Brennan made another
attempted to score that was stopped
by a Robert Morris defender.
In the second
half, the 'Guins took seven more
shots in hopes of tying the game.
Freshman Taylor Pickens' shot was
saved while Erin Gilmour totaled two
that were both wide of the net. All
four of Brennan's shots for the
night were also saved.
The defense held the Colonials for
the entire second half. Goalkeeper
Caitlin Bodzioney finished with five
saves for the game.
Head Coach Anthony James said that
the team created many scoring
opportunities, but needed to
capitalize on them.
"Once again I felt that our team
played a very complete game," said
James. "I was impressed with the
overall performance."
