Danielle
Dietrich Joins Soccer Program As
New Assistant Coach
Youngstown
-- Head women's soccer coach
Will Lemke announced that Danielle
Dietrich has been named Youngstown
State's assistant coach. Dietrich
was a former assistant women's
soccer coach at Goucher College for
two seasons and was a standout
student-athlete at The Ohio State
University.
While at Goucher, Dietrich served as
the head recruiting coordinator and
was responsible for training the
goalkeepers. Dietrich was part of
the team's rebuilding process and
saw significant improvement during
her two years with the program.
Under her direction last season,
goalkeeper Kellen Matthews totaled
six shutouts for the Gophers.
Dietrich, who played forward at OSU,
also worked closely with
forward/midfielder Sisley Pumilia
who led the team with 23 goals,
eight assist and 53 points.
Dietrich has experience as being the
head coach of two club teams. In the
summer of 2004 she coached the
Anchorage Youth Soccer Club U-13
Premier Team and from 2006-2007 she
was the head coach of the Westside
Soccer Club U-9 and U-15 Premier
Teams.
Lemke is very excited about Dietrich
and said that he made finding a good
coaching staff his top priority.
"I think she is very young,
enthusiast and knowledgeable about
the game and will provide incite to
the players" Lemke said.
"She has a lot of experience as a
player and as a coach. She is also
still young enough that she can
relate to the players," he added.
Lemke is also pleased with the
leadership role that Dietrich has
taken as the assistant coach.
"She has already started working
with the girls and it has had very
positive effect on the team," Lemke
added.
During her four years at OSU,
Deitrich was a member of two Big Ten
Championship teams in 2002 and 2004.
The 2004 championship team also made
an Elite Eight appearance.
On and individual level, Dietrich garnered Soccer Buzz
All-Great Lakes Region third-team
honors and was named to the
All-Freshman Team. She also shares
the title with two other players for
having the third most goals in a
season at OSU with 11 and ranks
third in school history with most
points in a season with 30.
For her work in the classroom, Dietrich was named a
three-time OSU scholar athlete and
Academic All-Big Ten.
"I'm excited to be at YSU and back
in the state of Ohio," said
Dietrich.
"I feel that brining in a whole new
staff has rejuvenated the team. They
are working really hard and seem to
have a new attitude."
Dietrich graduated from Ohio State
in 2006 earning her bachelors degree
in speech and hearing sciences.She
is expected to complete her Masters
in Education with a specialization
in athletic leadership and program
administration from Goucher College
in May 2009.
