Penguins Softball Swept After 17-2 Loss to UIC

Canfield, Ohio -- The Youngstown State softball team fell to 5-18 overall and 2-6 in the Horizon League after dropping a 17-2 decision to UIC (16-21, 7-1 Horizon League) on Sunday afternoon at McCune Park.

UIC pitcher Sarah Clynes allowed just four hits and went 5-for-6 with a home run, two doubles and six runs batted in to lead the Flames 19-hit attack.

Trailing 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth, freshman Kim Klonowski's field choice plated McKenzie Bedra, who broke up Clynes' perfect game with a leadoff single. Senior Becky Hibner single to center field scored Jamie Fornal for the Penguins' final score.

UIC added 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game away.

YSU visits Toledo, Wednesday, April 9, at 3 p.m.
