The new Youngstown State Baseball Coaching Staff will host two showcase camps in the next six weeks for players wishing to be instructed and evaluated.
First-year head coach Steve Gillispie and his experienced staff will hold the camps at Eastwood Field on Sunday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 28. The camps will be open to players in grades nine through 12, but eighth graders can be permitted with staff approval.
Registration for both days will run from 9-10 a.m., and the camp will go from 10 to approximately 4 p.m. The camp schedule includes stations for batting practice, offensive cage work, throwing drills, defensive drills, scrimmaging and recruiting information. Coach Gillispie will also speak with the attendees on his vision and high expectations for the Penguins program.
Although this is Gillispie's first season at YSU, he has a track record of using camps as a top source for recruiting. While he was at Jacksonville State, as much as 40 percent of the Gamecocks' roster was comprised of former camp attendees.
