The Youngstown State baseball team is set to open Horizon League play on Friday at UIC. The Penguins and Flames will play a three-game series at Les Miller Field beginning tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. Eastern time.
Saturday's start time is set for 2:05 p.m. Eastern time while the series finale is set for Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
The Penguins enter the series with an overall record of 3-15 while the Flames are 5-8 on the young season.
YSU's last trip to Chicago was in May for the Horizon League Tournament. The Penguins had a successful run in the postseason posting a 2-2 mark and came within a game of advancing to the championship round.
YSU is 4-7 in its previous 11 Horizon League openers. The Penguins' wins came in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010. YSU has opened HL play on the road in seven of the past eight seasons. Also, the Penguins have lost 21 consecutive games to the Flames at "The Mill". Their last win at UIC came on April 10, 1993.
The Flames have played a rough schedule to open the season with contests at Texas A&M, Santa Clara and Vanderbilt. UIC is coming off a home series against Purdue in which the Flames split two games with the Boilermakers.
In other Horizon League action this weekend, Milwaukee visits Wright State.
YSU finally plays its first home series of the year March 22-24 against Chicago State at Eastwood Field.
