Baseball Ends Road Trip With Loss At NC State

Raleigh, N.C. - The Youngstown State baseball team concluded its eight-game road trip with a 16-1 loss at NC State on Sunday.

The Wolfpack scored five runs in the first inning and led 14-0 after five innings.

YSU's Brent Gillespie was 3-for-4, and David Saluga was 2-for-2 after entering the game in the sixth inning as a pinch hitter. Andrew Knizner went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs for NC State

Penguins starter Nic Manuppelli struggled with his command, walking the first four batters of the game and issuing six walks total in 4.2 innings. The Wolfpack also had three hits in the first and ended up scoring five runs in the inning, and they added a run on a groundout in the third. They scored three runs in the fourth, two of which were unearned, and they scored five times in the fifth after Manuppelli retired the first two batters of the inning.

YSU's run came in the seventh when Nick DiNello scored on Mike Accardi's two-out, bases loaded single up the middle. Knizner's two-run home run in the eighth accounted for the final runs of the game.

The Penguins will start a three-game series at Cincinnati on Friday at 4 p.m.
