Fall Practice Quickly Approaching for Penguins

WR Kevin Watts hauls in a touchdown reception against Southern Illinois in 2010.

Youngstown State begins its 71st season under the direction of second-year Head Coach Eric Wolford on Saturday when the fall practice session starts. The Penguins report on Friday, Aug. 5. The first practice is set for Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium.

The Penguins return 39 letterwinners from last year's team, including seven starters on both offense and defense along with punter Nick Liste. The offense is highlighted by the return of junior tailback Jamaine Cook, who is on the preseason Watch List for the Walter Payton Award.

The first of five acclimatization practices begins on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Stambaugh Stadium. Two-a-day practice sessions start on Saturday, Aug. 13. A complete schedule is listed below.

In Coach Wolford's first season, the Penguins were 3-8 overall, however five losses came by six points or less.

YSU opens the season on Friday, Sept. 2 at Michigan State. The contest will be televised on the Big Ten Network and carried on 570 WKBN AM. For ticket information contact the YSU Athletic Ticket Office at (330) 941-1978.
