YSU Sits in Top Three For First Time Since September 2001
The Youngstown State football team moved up to third in The Sports Network poll which was released Monday. It is the highest ranking for the program since sitting in second exactly 11 years ago today. YSU is also third in this week's FCS Coaches Poll.
In the polls released on Sept. 24, 2001, YSU was second in The Sports Network and third in the coaches, which was then the ESPN Coaches Poll. That was the last time the Penguins sat in the top three in both major FCS polls.
Junior QB Kurt Hess was named a Collegiate Sporting News National All-Star and was honored as one of two quarterbacks of the week for MVFC by the College Football Performance Awards for his performance against UNI. Senior TE Will Shaw was honored as the CFPA's National Tight End of the Week for the second time this season.
YSU (4-0 overall and 1-0 in the MVFC) was also tabbed the Ohio College Football Team of the Week by OhioCollegeFootball.com.
The Penguins are idle this Saturday before returning to action at No. 1 North Dakota State on Oct. 6.
