Men's Basketball Hosts Franciscan in Home Opener Tuesday Night

Youngstown State Storylines
• The Penguins return three starters and six letterwinners from last year's team that advanced to the Horizon League Semifinals.
• First-year Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun became the program's 13th head coach on March 28, 2017.
• Senior guard Cameron Morse needs just 560 more points to become the third player in program history to record 2,000 points in a career.
• Morse, a two-time All-Horizon League selection, also needs 552 points to become YSU's Division I all-time leading scorer.
• Senior guard Francisco Santiago ranked second in the Horizon League in assists (158), assists per game (4.6), steals per game (1.4) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). He also averaged 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
• Junior Devin Haygood led the Penguins and ranked fourth in the league with 35 blocked shots.
• Junior Tyree Robinson posted double figures in his first game and start with the Penguins, scoring 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
• Freshman Naz Bohannon made his first career start against Kent State and nearly had a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
• Five other players made their YSU debuts against Kent State - senior Jaylen Benton, juniors Noe Anabir and Alex Wilbourn and freshmen Michael Akuchie and Garrett Covington.

 
 
Game Preview
• The Youngstown State men's basketball team hosts Franciscan in the 2017-18 home opener, Tuesday, Nov. 14.
• Tipoff is at 7:35 p.m. at the Beeghly Center and the game will be broadcast on 570-AM WKBN and ESPN3. 
• The game is part of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader.
• The YSU women host Kent State at 5:15 p.m.

• The Penguins visit Canisius in their first true road contest on Saturday, Nov. 18.
• Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the Koessler Athletic Center.
 
Last Time Out
• The Penguins are coming off a 111-78 loss to Kent State on Saturday, Nov. 11, in the Northeast Ohio Coaches vs. Cancer Doubleheader.
• Senior Cameron Morse led the Penguins with 19 points.
• Sophomore Braun Hartfield scored 14 points and junior Tyree Robinson added 10 points in his YSU debut.

• This is the first meeting between Youngstown State and Franciscan.
 
Morse 2,000-Point Countdown
• Senior Cameron Morse has scored 1,440 career points and needs 560 points to become the third player in school history to score 2,000 career points.
• Morse also needs 552 points to become YSU's Division I all-time leading scorer with 1,992 points.
• Last season, Morse scored 711 points and had 608 as a sophomore.
 
Penguin Debuts
• Seven player made their Youngtown State debuts on Saturday against Kent State.
• Junior Tyree Robinson and freshman Naz Bohannon each made their first career starts as well.
• Senior Jaylen Benton, juniors Noe Anabir and Alex Wibourn and freshmen Michael Akuchie and Garrett Covington all played in their first career game for YSU.
 
Santiago Ranked High In HL
• Senior guard Francisco Santiago ranked second in the Horizon League in assists (158), assists per game (4.6), steals per game (1.4) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). He also averaged 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
• He also averaged 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last season.
• His 158 assists were the eighth most all-time and the third-highest total in YSU's Division I history.
• He has a total of 297 career assists, which rank ninth all-time, and he needs three more to become just the ninth player in school history to record at least 300 assists in a career.
 
Hartfield Posted Solid Rookie Campaign
• Sophomore Braun Hartfield turned in a solid freshman campaign for the Penguins averaging 8.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
• Hartfield also shot 45.7 percent from the field and averaged 10.7 points per game against Horizon League opponents.
• Eight of his double-figure scoring games came against Horizon League opponents.
• He scored a career-high 22 points against Cleveland State in the first round of the 2017 Horizon League Championship on March 3.
 
Morse Named to Lou Henson Award Preseason Watch List
• Senior has been named to the 2017-18 Lou Henson Award Watch List.
• The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I mid-major player.
• Morse is one of four Horizon League players on the list.
