Penguins Improve to 2-0 With Solid Performance Over Chicago State

The Youngstown State men's tennis team defeated Chicago State 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the Boardman Tennis Center. YSU cruised to the doubles point early before winning all six singles matches in straight sets.

The Penguins play host to Xavier tomorrow at the Boardman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 5 p.m.

At No. 1 singles, Tariq Ismail defeated Mario Naboa 6-2, 6-3 while Dawoud Kabli defeated Julian Chavez 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3, Silviu Mistreanu knocked off Sergui Muresan 6-4, 2-1 (retired), Max Schmerin bested Raskley Yeremia at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-4, while at No. 5 Zeeshan Ismail beat Luis Ulloa 6-0, 7-5. Felipe Rosa earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.

In doubles play, YSU won 8-4 at No. 1, 8-1 at No. 2 and 8-1 at No. 3.

Head Coach Mark Klysner said the Penguins did a good job of not overlooking the Cougars with an important non-league match against the Musketeers on Saturday.

"The guys showed good focus today and used the match as good preparation for tomorrow night's match with Xavier," Klysner said. "Xavier is picked as one of the top two teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference so it will be a good early test for us. I know our players are looking forward to the challenge."
