Penguins Fall Short to Northern Illinois

Orlando, Fla. -- The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Northern Illinois on Tuesday morning. YSU picked up the doubles point against the Huskies. The Penguins lost four of the six singles matches in three sets.

YSU earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to go on top 1-0. At No. 2, Max Schmerin and Dawoud Kabli teamed up to beat Maksym Lagutin and Roman Turtygin 8-6 while at No. 3, Zeeshan Ismail and Silviu Mistreanu defeated Max Phillips and Frederic Cadieux 8-3.

In singles play, action at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 all went three sets, but the Penguins came out on the short end.

At No. 1, Tariq Ismail lost to Turtygin 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 2 Mistreanu suffered a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 loss to Dor Amir. In action at No. 4, Kabli came up short against Cadieux 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 and at No. 6, Rodrigo Campos dropped a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision to Maksym Bartiuk.

The Penguins play No. 59 Stetson on Wednesday.
