Penguins Open Spring Slate With Win at St. Bonaventure

Olean, N.Y. -- The Youngstown State men's tennis team opened its spring schedule with a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday at the SBU Tennis Center. YSU picked up the doubles point and won four of six singles matches.

YSU opened the dual picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles while dropping a hard-fought 9-8 (6) decision at No. 3.

Head Coach Mark Klysner said the solid start helped propel the Guins to four singles victories.

"I thought the guys came out really strong in doubles today and made a great effort to keep the momentum going into singles play," Klysner said. "I was very happy with the way they handled themselves in their matches and it was great to see Silviu pull out a win in his first collegiate match."

Dawoud Kabli pickedup up a 7-6 (12), 2-1 win over Luis Guevara at No. 2 singles, Max Schmerin won 6-2, 6-3 over Elliot Fanshel, Silviu Mistreanu defeated Javier Ortiz 6-2, 6-3 in his YSU debut and Rodrigo Campos won 6-0, 6-3 over Trevor Haskell.
