Penguins Fall 4-3 at UIC To Conclude Weekend

Chicago, Ill. -- The Youngstown State men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 setback to UIC on Sunday afternoon at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts. YSU won three singles matches against the Flames.

The Penguins dropped all three doubles matches and then were forced into the position of winning four of six singles matches to win the dual. YSU won at No. 2, No. 5 and No.6, but the Flames were victorious at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4.

At No. 2, Silviu Mistreanu rallied for a 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 decision over Alan Reifer, at No. 5, Rodrigo Campos also came from behind for a 6-7, 6-3, 10-7 victory. At No. 6, Zeeshan Ismail cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Francisco Pereira.

At No. 1 singles, Tariq Ismail lost 6-1, 7-5 to James Li, at No. 3, Dawould Kabli lost 6-4, 7-6 to Alexander Raa and at No. 4, Max Schmerin dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Maurizio Feoli.

With the win, UIC improves to 3-14 overall and 1-5 in the Horizon League. YSU drops to 8-9 and 3-2 in league play.

The Penguins return to action on Saturday when they play host to Wright State.
