Mistreanu Earns Victory as Penguins Fall To Raiders

Boardman - Freshman Silviu Mistreanu picked up a win at No. 2 singles for the Youngstown State men's tennis team on Saturday night against Wright State at the Boardman Tennis Center. YSU lost the match 6-1 to the Raiders.

With the win, Wright State secures the top seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championships. The Raiders are 17-4 overall and 6-0 in Horizon League action. The Penguins fall to 8-10 overall and 3-3 in HL play.

Mistreanu earned a hard-fough 7-6, 7-6 victory at No. 2 singles over Hayden Joblin. With the win, Mistreanu improves to 13-5 overall and 5-1 in Horizon League action. It was Mistreanu's third straight win.

Rodrigo Campos and Zeeshan Ismail each had three-game winning streaks snapped. At No. 5, Campos lost 6-4, 6-4 to Jamison Clark while Ismail dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 6 to Ricardo Pineda.

At No. 1, Tariq Ismail dropped a tough 7-6, 7-5 match to Martin Arguello. At No. 3, Dawoud Kabli lost 6-4, 6-1 to Lauri Makikalli while Max Schmerin suffered a 6-1, 6-1 setback at No. 4 singles to Michal Lyzwa.

The Raiders won all three doubles matches.

The Penguins close out the regular season on Sunday when they play host to Butler. First serve at the YSU Tennis Courts is set for 11:30 a.m.
