YSU Comes Up Short In League Match to Cleveland State

Boardman - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Cleveland State on Saturday night. The Penguins split the six singles matches with the Vikings.

After dropping the doubles point, the Vikings (6-9 and 2-0 in the Horizon League) won three of the first four completed singles matches. CSU defeated the Penguins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, while Silviu Mistreanu and Felipe Rosa won 8-5 at No. 3.

Leading the way for the Penguins was Mistreanu who picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jorg van der Vloet at No. 1 singles. In the final two matches of the night, Zeeshan Ismail rallied for three-set victory over Joe VanMeter at No. 5 while Rodrigo Campos won 7-5, 6-3 over Matt Ford at No. 6 singles.

With their wins, Mistreanu improves to 12-8 on the season, Ismail evens his season record at 12-12 and Campos is 13-10, leading the team in victories for the season.

YSU (8-7 and 1-1) returns to action next Saturday when they visit defending Horizon League Champion Green Bay.
