Schmerin Earns Win as Penguins Drop Match at Toledo

Maumee, Ohio - Youngstown State's Max Schmerin earned a win for the men's tennis team today at Toledo. The Penguins dropped the match 6-1 to the Rockets at The Shadow Valley Tennis Club.

At No. 4 singles, Schmerin defeated Garrett Cona 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to earn the victory.

The Penguins (1-2) suffered two touch defeats in singles play and won one of the three doubles matches.

At No. 1, Silviu Mistreanu won the first set 6-5 before losing 6-4 in the second set and dropping a 10-1 decision in a third-set tiebreaker to Mark Singnil. At No. 3, Dawoud Kabli lost in three sets to Nicky Wong, 6-1, 5-6, 6-1. At No. 5 singles, Zeeshan Ismail lost 6-1, 6-2 to Roberto Meza while Sharvil Nawghare lost 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles to Ben Brocker.

In doubles play, Schmerin and Mistreanu were victorious at No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-3. The Guins lost 6-4 at No. 1 doubles and 6-4 at No. 2 to lose the point.

YSU returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Ohio State.
