Penguins Drop Close Match at UC Riverside

Riverside, Calif. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to UC Riverside on Tuesday at the SRC Tennis Courts.

The Penguins won all three doubles matches, but the Highlanders rallied to win four of the six singles matches to win the dual.

In doubles, Joao Garretto and Danylo Veremeichuk teamed up for a 6-4 win at No. 1. At No. 2, Matthew Kritzinger and Vasilis Vardakis earned a 6-2 victory. At No. 3, Yossi Dahan and Bassem El Mekawi earned a 7-6 victory.

In singles action, Veremeichuk and El Mekawi picked up victories. At No. 2, Veremeichuk won 6-2, 7-5 while El Mekawi earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4.

YSU is next in action on March 15 when it plays host to LaSalle at the Boardman Tennis Center.
