Toledo, Ohio -- The Youngstown State softball team fell to 26-15-1 after dropping a pair of games to Toledo on Tuesday afternoon at Scott Park. The Guins lost game one, 10-1, in five innings and fell 9-6 in game two.
In game two, Senior Haley Thomas went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a two-run home run while junior Sarah Gabel had a two-run single. Freshman Brooke Meenachan also had a run-scoring single for the Guins.
The Guins jumped out to a 3-0 in the top of the first when Thomas led off the game with a double to right-center field.
A walk to senior Kristen Philen loaded the bases and Snodgrass scored from third on a failed pick off attempt to put the Guins up 3-0.
Toledo knotted the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the first before Thomas belted a two-run home run - her seventh of the year - to put the Guins ahead 5-3. Senior Amanda Palmore, who walked to leadoff the inning, scored on the Thomas homer.
In the top of the fourth, Thomas doubled with two outs and scored on Meenachan's single up the middle to put YSU up by three, 6-3.
Toledo scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the sixth for the come-from-behind victory.
In game one, the Guins had just two hits - singles by Jordan Ingalls and Snodgrass. A sacrifice fly by Philen in the top of the second accounted for the lone Penguins run.
The Guins host UIC in a three-game series, April 28-29, at McCune Park. First pitch on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
