Senior Casey Crozier allowed just four hits and struck out four, but the Youngstown State softball team dropped a 2-0 decision to Horizon League foe Green Bay on Saturday afternoon. The Penguins tallied just five hits and left eight runners stranded.
The Penguins fall to 15-14 overall and 2-3 in the Horizon League while the Phoenix improve to 13-6 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Green Bay's Haliey Morfeld belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie.
The Penguins threatened in the top of the third with a bases loaded and no outs. Sophomore Miranda Castiglione lined into a double play and Green Bay's Ashley Nanneman enticed a ground out to end the inning.
Senior Courtney Ewing extended her hitting streak to 17 games with a single, while junior Kayla Haslett, freshman Sarah Dowd, senior Samantha Snodgrass and freshman Maria Lacatena also recorded singles.
The Penguins and Phoenix will close out the series with a doublheader starting at 1 p.m. EDT.
